Three platforms, three places

Three places on paper: inside, on top, between

Papkot makes bio-mineral solutions for paper and board. Each platform goes in a different place.

Where is your problem?

Each problem has its place on the sheet. Each place has its Papkot platform.

1 · Papermaking additives · In production

Inside the fibre

Papermaking additives go inside the fibre, at the wet end of the paper machine, where the fibres are still in water. They make fibre bonds stronger: more filler, less long fibre. They are for paper and board, and for moulded pulp.

  1. Fibres and filler in water
  2. The additive goes in at the wet end
  3. The sheet forms and dries
  4. Paper or board on the reel
  5. Or a mould: moulded pulp

The additive settles where fibres cross

Measured results are on pa.papkot.com. Each result shows its evidence label: mill-tested, lab-tested or extrapolated.

2 · Coatings · On sale today

On the surface

Coatings go on the surface of paper and board. They give a barrier against water, oil or grease. Paper cups and folding cartons come first.

Today our coatings run offline, on rod, gravure and blade lines, after the paper is made. Online, at the size press of the paper machine, is our roadmap: we develop our grease barriers for the size press and test them on our lab size press.

Paper cups with Papkot coatings comply with the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD). Oil and grease barriers for food wraps and containerboard: KIT 6 to 12. The coat weight sets the level.

  1. The paper or board unwinds from the reel.
  2. A rod or a gravure roll lays the barrier coating.
  3. Water and grease stay on the surface.

3 · Adhesives

Between surfaces

Adhesives go between two paper surfaces. Papkot makes seals and a wet glue: RBLB, a release-free cold seal, and P12, a heat seal, for packing lines; RBG, a white glue that goes on wet at the glue line of folding cartons.

Two sealing solutions: one for vertical and one for horizontal packing lines. Uses include flowpacks and pouches.

RBLB and P12 go on the web like a coating, then dry at 100 to 120 °C. RBG goes on wet at the converter, at the glue line.

  1. The paper web wraps the product.
  2. An adhesive: cold seal, heat seal or white glue.
  3. The jaws close the seal, on a vertical or a horizontal line.

Who uses it on the machine

Papkot supplies the chemistry and the know-how. Mills and converters use it on their own machines.

Papkot does not make packaging. Your converter makes the pack.

Which platform fits your material

Find your paper, your board or your pack. The number is its place on the sheet.

  • Inside the fibre, at the mill: stronger fibre bonding, more filler, less long fibre.

  • Moulded pulp (opens in a new tab)

    1 · Papermaking additives

Fibre shaped in a mould, like an egg tray.

  • Paper cups

    2 · Coatings

A water barrier in place of the plastic lining.

    SUPD compliant

  • Folding cartons

    2 · Coatings

An oil and grease barrier in place of PFAS. Papkot adds no PFAS to its coatings.

  • An oil and grease barrier on containerboard, for pizza and takeaway boxes.

KIT 6 to 12, set by the coat weight

  • Food wraps

    2 · Coatings

An oil and grease barrier on wrap paper, with no PFAS added.

KIT 6 to 12, set by the coat weight

  • Transparent paper

    2 · Coatings

The TR series coating clears transparent paper.

  • Flowpacks and pouches

    3 · Adhesives

Two sealing solutions: one for vertical and one for horizontal packing lines.

  • Pack closure

    3 · Adhesives
