PFAS and paper
What is PFAS?
Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances. They repel water and grease. Some laws restrict them in food packaging. The glossary gives more terms.
Does Papkot add PFAS to its coatings?
No. Papkot adds no PFAS to its coatings. On folding cartons, the Papkot oil and grease barrier takes the place of PFAS.
Cups, wraps and seals
Do paper cups with Papkot coatings comply with the SUPD?
Yes. Paper cups with Papkot coatings comply with the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD). Papkot cup coatings already compete on cost with PE extrusion.
How much grease resistance do Papkot coatings give on food wraps and containerboard?
KIT 6 to 12. The coat weight sets the level. A higher KIT number means more grease resistance.
Can Papkot adhesives seal on vertical and horizontal packing lines?
Papkot has two sealing solutions: one for vertical and one for horizontal packing lines. Uses include flowpacks and pouches. The adhesives: RBLB, a release-free cold seal; P12, a heat seal; RBG, a white glue for folding cartons.

What does Papkot make?
Papkot makes bio-mineral solutions for paper and board on three platforms: papermaking additives, coatings and adhesives. Papermaking additives are for papermaking and moulded pulp. Coatings replace plastic coatings and PFAS, for paper cups and folding cartons first. Adhesives: cold seal, heat seal and white glue. All are bio-mineral except P12, a biopolymer from pine trees.
Does Papkot make packaging?
No. Papkot supplies the chemistry and the know-how. Paper mills and converters use it on their own machines.
Where does each platform go?
Papermaking additives go inside the fibre. Coatings go on the surface. Adhesives go between surfaces.
Where can a paper mill find evidence?
The evidence for papermaking additives is on pa.papkot.com. Each mill trial is compared with a production reel of the standard product, made the same day.
Does Papkot have a food-contact dossier?
For papermaking additives, yes. Every PA grade has a food-contact dossier covering EU regulation and BfR.
Do coatings and adhesives have food-contact documents?
Food contact: each product has its own food-contact documents. Ask for them.
