What a Papkot coating does
A thin layer on the surface.
It keeps out water, or oil and grease.
- Paper with no barrier: oil and grease go into it.
- A thin Papkot coating goes on the surface.
- Water, or oil and grease, stays on top.
Water, and oil and grease barriers
Some coatings give a barrier against water. Some give a barrier against oil and grease.
Oil and grease barriers on food wraps and containerboard: KIT 6 to 12. The coat weight sets the level.

Online and offline
A Papkot coating can go on the paper in two places. Offline, a coating line applies it after the paper is made. Online, the paper machine applies it as the paper is made.
Offline today: rod, gravure and blade coating lines. Online is our roadmap: blade coating, and the film press (metering size press, MSP), which can coat one side only. We develop our grease barriers for the size press and test them on our lab size press.
On light wrap papers of 30 to 34 g/m², our lab size press reached KIT 7 with 2.35 to 3.25 g/m² of coating per side. On 38 to 40 g/m² wraps, about 2.5 g/m² per side on the size press passed all four of our grease tests on both sides.
Tell us your machine: blade, film press, pond size press or metering size press, and the speed. We test on your base paper.
