The TR series is a transparency booster coating for paper.
It is the coating that makes Vetrino, a transparent paper.
What the TR series does
The TR series is a transparency booster coating. It is applied to paper to make the paper more transparent.
Its main effect is on haze. On two transparent papers, TR5 lowered haze by 20 to 29 points and raised transparency by 2 to 3 points.
It goes on one side or on both sides of the paper. Both sides give the lowest haze.

Transparency and haze are not the same
A sheet can let most of the light through and still look milky. Move the sliders, or pick a sheet.
Total luminous transmittance: the percentage of the light that goes through the sheet.
The percentage of the light that goes through and is scattered more than 2.5 degrees (ASTM D1003). More haze makes the view milky and soft.
Values: TR5 on a 32 g/m² transparent paper, 1.58 g/m² on both sides.

Measured with a haze meter under illuminants A, C and D65, mean of the three, against the uncoated paper of the same batch. Paper 1: 32 g/m² transparent paper, 1.58 g/m². Paper 2: 32 g/m² transparent paper, 1.23 g/m².
How it is applied
The TR series is applied offline: the coating goes on after the paper is made, not on the paper machine.
The TR series is solvent-based.
It runs on a rod coater or a gravure press.
The TR series on the market today is solvent-based. A water-based version is in development.
