About Papkot
Bio-mineral chemistry for paper and board
Papkot makes bio-mineral solutions for paper and board on three platforms.
Mission: Papkot exists to remove harmful materials from the world around us.
Since 2020
The problem
Many paper and board products must resist water or grease. A plastic layer or a PFAS treatment often does this job today.
Papkot started in 2020 around a problem its founder and CEO, Manuel Milliery, could not let go: plastic, and the microplastics it leaves behind.
As a paper scientist and sol-gel chemist, he saw why paper kept losing. The chemistry that makes a pack resist water, grease or tearing does not hold on fibre, so packs carry a layer of plastic. Papkot builds the bio-mineral bonding that holds that chemistry on the fibre instead.
He holds every product to one test: paper has to perform like plastic and cost like plastic. In paper cups, Papkot coatings already compete on cost with PE extrusion, and the cups comply with the EU Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUPD).

How Papkot works
Papkot supplies the chemistry and the application know-how. Mills and converters use it on their own machines.
Papkot does not make packaging.
Papermaking additives go into the fibre at the mill. Papkot coatings run offline today, on rod, gravure and blade lines.
- Papkot supplies the chemistry and the know-how.
- The mill or converter runs it on its own machine.
- Your converter makes the pack.
